Software Developer

Energy Federation, Inc., a national leader in promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy is looking for a Software Developer to participate in software development within an Agile team developing new and, supporting existing applications for internal and external clients.

The industry changes quickly, so we are looking for candidates who can respond to change, pick up new technologies quickly and adapt to changing requirements. We also want candidates who take pride in their work and have strong design and development expertise. This position requires adept skills in integrating distributed systems and applications built on vendor implemented software platforms, both in-house and in a hosted environment.

Essential Duties

  • Ability to develop code aligned with requirements, following SDLC and/or Agile best practices
  • Create and maintain documentation using tools such as Visio, MS Word, Excel, etc. that can be utilized for support and cross training related to Production Support, existing applications and new coding efforts
  • Deliver work products as approved and prioritized by the Software Development Manager through the Project Management Office
  • Collaborate and partner with other Data analysts on project deliverables
  • Design, develop, test, debug, implement and maintain code to support new solution development
  • Provide ongoing maintenance and support of assigned production applications
  • Monitor performance of production applications and correct any identified issues or problems
  • Perform root cause analysis on problematic code/queries
  • Create and execute unit test cases on all solutions
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required
  • Mentor and lead more junior developers

Required/Desired Education, Experience and Necessary Qualifications

Minimum of 4 years of related work experience. E-commerce experience a plus. Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment with strong organizational skills, attention to detail and driven to goal and results achievement.

Specific experiences required:

  • Well versed in writing clean HTML, CSS, JavaScript. jQuery experience is a plus.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL. Writing optimized SQL and following best practices for relational databases. Creating Stored Procedures, relational tables.
  • Experience with maintaining and improving an existing codebase, focusing on improving performance, scalability and user experience.
  • Familiar with Scrum / Agile methodologies.
  • Design system enhancements and business process changes geared to drive best practices that improve efficiency of staff, the accuracy of results, and usefulness of data.
  • Critically evaluate business requirements in a variety of functional areas, providing alternative solutions where applicable.
  • Work in conjunction with outside vendors in a shared development environment.
  • Work with Application Support, QA, and development to support application issues, changes and modifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or a related field or equivalent experience.
