For today's Staff in the Spotlight, we would like to introduce and honor Philip Scarbro. Phil has been with EFI since 1986 and in his 32 years here, he has done just about everything!
Phil's variety of roles have included Network Administrator, Product Manager, Web Developer, eCommerce Product Manager, Data Analyst, and most currently, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives. He even had a brief stint as a landscaper, using a cordless electric lawnmower that EFI owned to mow the lawn around the office each weekend. Talk about a man wearing many hats!
In 1994, wearing his Web Developer hat, Phil registered an Internet domain for EFI and designed and deployed EFI's first Web site. In the early 2000s, he designed and built EFI's first online eCommerce sites to allow customers of our electric and gas utility clients to get instant rebates when purchasing products. In the late 2000s, Phil worked with a programmer colleague to design and deploy EFI's first online rebate submission sites in support of government-funded programs in New Mexico and Tennessee.
In his current role as Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, his day-to-day focus is on surfacing potential energy efficiency-related proposal opportunities and preparing responses on EFI's behalf. In truth, however, his work is the same as it has always been - to find ways to help the environment, the economy, and individual households thr ough energy efficiency, which is more important now than it has ever been.
Phil has a commitment to sustainability (it has influenced where he lives, what he drives, what he eats, where he shops, and what he does for a living) and believes that EFI has helped establish an industry that not only has led governments and utilities to promote increased energy efficiency, but has also created jobs, strengthened the economy, and, through these efforts, has helped to address global warming and climate change all accomplishments that everyone at EFI sure can feel good about!
Outside of the office, Phil is a worldly traveler. Some of his favorite adventures have taken place in Ecuador, Ireland, Switzerland, Zanzibar, and more. He also enjoys spending his time working on his 1924 craftsman-style house, which provides him with endless opportunities for renovation and improvement.
What's Phil's most significant accomplishment thus far? Raising an inspiring college-age daughter who loves to learn, is concerned about equity and equality issues and is motivated to make a difference in the world.
Thank you for all that you do for EFI, Phil! You're a critical member of our team and we appreciate your dedication and hard work!
We are very excited to be able to combine the convenience of online shopping with the importance of energy and water efficiency. Customers can have a personalized shopping experience and know they are purchasing high-end products that will help them save energy and water.Steve Z. General Manager of Glendale Water & Power
We had just moved to our new home, and really needed to shore up the heating system, and figure out how we could afford new windows, as they were original, and our heat never stayed in the house. We worked with MassSave and EFI to assess our home, qualify for, and fulfill a heat loan. We were up and running with a new heating system, with a zero interest heat loan in about a week. This couldn't have been easier, and to be honest, more needed. Thank you EFI and MassSave!Ryan D, Mass Save Marketplace Customer
We’re excited to partner with EFI! Using our existing programs, customers have saved millions of dollars in energy costs over the years. The PPL Marketplace certainly will add to those savings.Mary Ann M. Manager of PPL’s residential EE programs
We worked with EFI to create a product marketplace to offer our customer base an easy to use shopping portal. Our goal this year was to move 500K bulbs across all of our jurisdictions, and the EFI's marketplace and marketing expertise ensured that that number was hit by Q3. These guys know what they are doing, its just that simple.Ron S. Manager – Planning and Evaluation
I don't know why but I am very happy with your service. I am proud that you want to help us save energy. I bought a ton of light bulbs. Thank you for being one of the few services I am happy with.Tracey Kitchens - Duke Energy Marketplace Customer
